News on Captain Phil Harris’ death had been spread out, a lot of fans have become sad saying that the sea will never be the same without the Captain of the Cornelia Marie.

Captain Phil Harris, fisherman in charge of the Cornelia Marie on the popular Discovery Channel show “Deadliest Catch,” passed away late yesterday nearly two weeks after suffering a stroke on Jan. 29.

“Deadliest Catch” is a documentary series following the lives of fishermen in Alaska. The show launched in 2005, and aired its fifth season this year.

Harris’s sons, Josh and Jake, today posted a statement about their father’s passing on the Cornelia Marie site.

“It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad — Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.”

The Web site also carried a statement from Discovery reading “We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart.”

A month ago, he had a stroke and went through surgery. While he was on rehabilitation, everything was thought to be okay, but he suddenly became weak though he had shown a lot of improvements.
