Prior to the kickoff at Super Bowl XLIV, Grammy-winning artists Queen Latifah and Carrie Underwood got the crowd at Sun Life Stadium ready for action with two stirring performances.The pre-game show  feature Queen Latifah singing America the Beautiful, with Carrie Underwood perform the national anthem. Both were on hand to speak about the pressures of the event and the worldwide audience.

Latifah, in a sparkle-filled gray jacket, performed a soft-spoken but heartfelt version of America the Beautiful to the delight of the fans.

Moments later, with the color guard closely behind her on a makeshift stage at midfield, Underwood belted out a stunning rendition of the national anthem. Seconds after finishing the final note, Underwood looked toward the sky with a big smile as four F-15s flew over the stadium before peeling away on full afterburner, rattling the seats at Sun Life Stadium.

Queen Latifah spoke about the Super Bowl’s impact.

“I’m amazingly proud to be an American. I’ve watched how we’ve shown up around the world. It’s a great time to be an American and to be at the Super Bowl.’

Underwood was a bit more reserved as she discussed her greatest fear: remembering the words.

“Of course you’ve sang these songs a million times, and everybody knows the words, but if you’re going to mess up, this will be the one time you do.”

But the day belonged to the halftime show, England’s The Who, as they performed an acoustic three-song set of the classics Behind Blue Eyes, Pinball Wizard and Won’t Get Fooled Again. They brought some levity to the event when asked who they were rooting for in the game.

Minutes later, the stage was gone, the players were back on the field and Super Bowl XLIV was back in action.
