She’s still relatively young in her musical career, but tonight (September 13)  Taylor Swift experienced one of the biggest acts of disrespect in MTV Video Music Awards history.

The “You Belong With Me” songstress had just taken the stage at Radio City Music Hall to accept her award for Best Female Video when she was rudely interrupted.

Kanye ran out onto the stage and took the microphone from her to give a shout-out to Beyonce, one of the other nominees.

“Thank you so much!” Swift began. “I always dreamed about what it would be like to maybe win one of these some day, but I never actually thought it would have happened. I sing country music so thank you so much for giving me a chance to win a VMA award.”

Before she could continue, West broke in. “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!” Kanye shouted to a mortified Swift and the speechless audience.

The camera showed a stunned Beyonce in the audience, mouth open in disbelief at what she was seeing. And poor Taylor stood by speechless before some in the audience began to boo Kanye as he left the stage.

Determined to be the bigger person, Taylor refrained from making any retaliatory comments, and simply left the stage.  As a side note, Kanye was massively booed when his name was announced later in the show.

In a super-classy gesture, when Beyonce won Video of the Year for “Single Ladies” toward the end of the evening, she said she remembered what it was like being nominated for a VMA at age 17 with Destiny’s Child. Then she called Taylor back to the stage, saying “I’d like Taylor to come out and have her moment.”

And when Taylor came out on the stage, she joked, “Maybe we could try this again,” to loud applause.
