Amanda Rodrigues Gatti is being held by police in Brazil over the death of her husband, the champion boxer, Arturo Gatti.

She  is now a suspect in her husband’s death. Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues, was taken into custody by authorities for being a suspect in the murder or her husband.

Police interrogated Gatti’s wife and she reportedly made contradictory statements during questioning.

According to investigations, Arturo and Amanda Gatti had a verbal fight at a bar on Friday before returning to their hotel room. The following day Amanda Rodrigues Gatti said she went out for a walk with their son and found Arturo dead in their hotel room when she returned. However investigations have also shown that one of Amanda’s purses had been used to strangle and asphyxiate Arturo.

Legendary boxer Arturo Gatti was found dead yesterday on July 11, 2009 at 6 A.M. in a seaside resort in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil.

Former boxing champion Acelino Freitas, who was a close friend of Gatti, claims Gatti and his wife were having problems and were about to split up.

In March of this year Gatti was charged with assaulting Amanda Rodriguez but he failed to appear in court to answer the charges. When he did appear, in April, he was released on bail and ordered to be at least 200 meters away from Rodriguez at all times.
